Sidney Rice catching passes for Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have been without the services of speedy wide receiver Sidney Rice for the entire season. After putting off surgery in the off-season, Rice opted for hip surgery just prior to the start of the 2010 season. According to Judd Zulgad of the Star-Tribune, Sidney Rice was back on the field Thursday catching passes. The reporter states that Rice was catching passes from receivers coach George Stewart.
“I was jogging around. I wasn’t running and routes”, Rice told reporters.
The Vikings have until November 9th to activate Rice from the physically unable to perform list but no exact timetable for his return to the field in game situations remains in doubt.
Minnesota bracing for Brett Favre-Brad Childress showdown?
[picappgallerysingle id="10054412"]
Well, Minnesota Vikings fans had to have seen this one coming. It looks as if the ultimate showdown between Vikings QB Brett Favre and head coach Brad Childress might finally be coming to a head. Brett Favre has not practiced all week but was seen walking without his protective walking boot yesterday.
Favre has stated that he wants to play if he thinks he can help the team win. Well, every time Favre walks on the field, he thinks he can help the team win. Brad Childress believes that Favre must go through all the things other injured players have to undergo to prove that they are able to play on Sunday.
This has all the makings of the ultimate showdown. The power struggle to see who actually is running the Minnesota Vikings. Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 of the Twin Cities addresses the upcoming showdown and the ramifications.
Brett Favre out of boot, will play on Sunday
[picappgallerysingle id="10054409"]
What a difference a day makes in the world of Brett Favre. The Minnesota Vikings quarterback was seen without a protective boot this afternoon and spoke to the media after practice. “I wouldn’t put anything past me, to be honest with you”, Favre told ESPN 1500. Hmmmm. Favre told the radio station that he hopes to practice on Friday.
This scenario is shaping up just as I predicted it would. He’ll most likely be the starter against the New England Patriots this weekend, and will exit the game at some point with an aggravation of his ankle injury, a move which keeps the consecutive game streak alive. If the Vikings lose against New England, and the Vikings fall to 2-5, he’ll come out after the game and simply state that his ankle is too damaged to move forward.
Come on, this week Favre looked like an extra from a Star Wars movie as a Stormtrooper wearing his boot. Now all of a sudden, he’s healed? I call BS. I wouldn’t care if he needed a Medicare reimbursed Hover-Round mobile cart, Favre would be on the field on Sunday. His legacy is everything to him and the consecutive game streak is all he has left right now after admitting to sending the text messages to Jenn Sterger.
Favre will play on Sunday, I don’t know if he finishes the game, but if he does and manages to beat the New England Patriots, this 7 day a week Favre drama continues.
Vikings Favre skips practice, won’t rule himself out

At his weekly press conference, Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre said he wouldn’t rule himself out of this weeks game against the New England Patriots, but he did not practice on Wednesday. Favre addressed the media wearing a boot which resembled part of a Star Wars Stormtrooper character and said that he would not allow his 291 consecutive game streak to factor into the decision whether or not to play.
BS. In the past few weeks his reputation has been tarnished and the consecutive game streak is all he has left. If the team needs to wheel him out under center with a hand truck, he’ll have them do it. “I’m very proud of the streak, but it probably should have ended a long time ago. I don’t want to go out there for one play”, Favre told reporters. You got part of that correct Brett, the streak should have ended. It should have ended in January of this year after the Vikings lost to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game and the Vikings should have someone else under center this season.
Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress seems to have kissed and made up with his quarterback, as he told reporters “I wouldn’t put it past him” when speaking in regards to whether or not Favre would be playing on Sunday.
Minnesota Vikings are imploding

The season started with so much promise for the Minnesota Vikings and now as the NFL heads into week 8, it appears the Minnesota Vikings are imploding. Vikings QB Brett Favre has provided more drama than usual this season. Vikings head coach Brad Childress is a mess. And the team is facing yet another must win game this week in order to avoid from falling out of the playoff race.
QB Brett Favre usually is responsible for bringing a lot of drama with his to a team, but this season has been an all-time record for Favre. From the sexting issue to the will he sit drama, Favre has provided enough material for a 24 hour reality show this season. As I watched his presser after Sunday night’s game, I didn’t see the same confident quarterback that Vikings fans were used to seeing last year. In fact, I saw a shell of the quarterback from last season. It’s time for the veteran quarterback to sit, 292 consecutive games or not.
Head Coach Brad Childress has come unglued. Childress publicly threw Favre under the bus after Sunday night’s game. Wow, how the relationship has crumbled. This is the head coach who met Favre at the airport last season and sent a trio of players to Mississippi to bring Favre back to camp this season. But Childress didn’t limit his scornful comments to just his quarterback, he then took on the NFL officials from Sunday night’s game and found himself slapped with a $35,000 dollar fine from the NFL league offices. I believe the pressure is getting to Childress. I think he believed that this year the Vikings would waltz through the NFC and head straight to Dallas and the Super Bowl. A long string of events unraveled and the Vikings now find themselves 2-4.
A loss to the New England Patriots will not be the final nail in the coffin for the Minnesota Vikings playoff aspirations in a very weakened NFC, but the Vikings have got to start stringing some wins together. After New England, Minnesota faces Arizona and Chicago before a rematch with the Green Bay Packers. A 10-6 record might very well be good enough to win the NFC North. Green Bay and Chicago both have their own issues to deal with, but in order to reach 10-6, the Vikings have to finish 8-2 in their last 10 games. Not an impossible feat given the talent the Vikings have but one which seems impossible given the way the Vikings have played after the first six games.
