Favre fails concussion test, seriously? Why bother at this point?
[picappgallerysingle id="10424469"]
Judd Zulgad from the Star-Tribune reported late Wednesday that Brett Favre failed yet another concussion test. Seriously, at this point, why is the team even trying to clear him to play another game? Yes, Favre is playing under a contract which will pay him over $1 million dollars per game, and there are most likely contract issues that need to be dealt with from the team standpoint, but even if he can play? Why bother?
The season is lost. Favre is done with the Vikings, his contract will be up. Joe Webb looked more than impressive on Tuesday night, why put Favre back in the mix? For one last time? This is becoming pathetic. He’s over, he’s done. He was Brad Childress’s project and now Leslie Frazier is in charge. I understand Frazier is the one facilitating these discussions, but Frazier also has not been named the head coach.
Simply end this debacle now. Favre’s streak is over, he’s a shell of what he was last season, he won’t contribute in 2011, let Joe Webb play in the last game. There should be no discussion about that fact.

Vikings Brett Favre handed a fine from the NFL
[picappgallerysingle id="10423081"]
Five more days, and the Minnesota Vikings can put the Brett Favre saga and drama behind them. Favre’s contract was for two seasons and there is no reason to ask him back for another season. The consecutive game streak is over, Favre is a shell of the quarterback he once was, and now the league has finally handed down a fine of $50,000 dollars for the incident surrounding former New York Jets employee, Jenn Sterger.
The fine was levied from the NFL league office for him supposedly “not cooperating” with the investigation into the incident. This is over, after nearly 10 weeks, close the door. It is time for the Vikings to move on and after watching Joe Webb last night, that appears to be the direction that the Vikings should be heading, not trying to get another year out of Favre or any other aging veteran quarterback.
Minnesota is team which will have some difficult decisions coming up, and Brett Favre does not need to be in the mix. 2009 was a magical season, but the team was not able to catch lightening in a bottle two seasons in a row. Move on.
The Minnesota Vikings need to call a press conference for this afternoon
[picappgallerysingle id="10422977"]
The Minnesota Vikings need to call a press conference for this afternoon and announce that they have signed interim head coach Leslie Frazier to a new contract extension. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf should have met the plane last night at the airport with a copy of a contract in his hands. Last night’s game was supposed to be a Philadelphia Eagles blowout.
The thought of playing the Eagles in a blizzard was more appealing because the snow was going to be the great equalizer. An act of God was the only way that Michael Vick was going to be slowed down. So when it was announced that the game was moved to Tuesday night and the weather was going to be better, all hope was supposedly lost for the Vikings. It didn’t take an act of God to defeat Vick, all it took was a Vikings pass rush which had been silent for most of the season. This was the defense that Vikings fans thought they were going to watch in 2010.
And where did this performance from rookie Joe Webb come from? This wasn’t supposed to happen, not in his first career start in Philadelphia, not in this fashion. Webb looked poised, the Eagles blitzing defense didn’t rattle him. Webb did miss a wide open Adrian Peterson at the goal line, but come on, this was his first start. Did you honestly think that the kid was going to perform like this? Do the Minnesota Vikings need to go out and sign another aging veteran quarterback now, or can they roll with Webb heading into next year?
Regardless, this was the best game the Vikings have played all season. It is very apparent that these players want to play for Leslie Frazier and the Vikings should sign him post-haste. Don’t let Frazier out of the building without security. Screen his calls, don’t let him take phone calls from real estate brokers in San Francisco or Denver. Put blocks on his computer so he’s not Googling places of interest in Dallas or Cincinnati.
Just get it over with, call a press conference for this afternoon and announce that you have signed Leslie Frazier to a new four-year deal. Don’t let him hit the open market.
Is quarterback now a position of need for the Minnesota Vikings?
[picappgallerysingle id="10412649"]
This is a very impressive debut for rookie QB Joe Webb, is a quarterback now a position of need for the Miinesota Vikings in the offseason? Webb looked impressive in the preseason and his athleticism has never been in question but he does look pretty solid this evening while playing in Philadelphia, a hostile place to play.
After the first drive of the second half, Webb is 11 of 18 for 140 yards. WR Sidney Rice bobbled a 3 yard fade pass for an apparent touchdown and Webb did make a mistake by not hitting Adrian Peterson at the goal line on third down, but for his first career start in a game which has been nothing but routine, it’s an impressive showing.
The quarterback of the Vikings future might have been on the roster the entire season.
Minnesota Vikings only have one Pro-Bowl player
[picappgallerysingle id="10340594"]
The Minnesota Vikings have only one player named to the Pro-Bowl in 2010, running back Adrian Peterson. In a season which has been filled with disappointment, it is disappointing to see that only one player from the Vikings finds his way to the Pro-Bowl.
Peterson has had a solid season for the Vikings. The running back was not named a starter in the Pro-Bowl, Atlanta Falcons RB Michael Turner was, but Peterson has been a solid producer for the Vikings this season.
Peterson has 1149 rushing yards, 332 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns. He also has been able to silence his critics this season. Coming into 2010, there were several questions surrounding Peterson’s fumbling issues, he has zero fumbles on the season.
